Regional Meeting Eastern Mediterranean Region
29-31 March, 2004
Amman, Jordan
A joint GF/WHO meeting was organized for the Eastern Mediterranean Region in collaboration with UNICEF and UNAIDS for Round 1, 2 and 3 grant recipients from 10 countries (Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen).
The meeting was attended by 75 participants, that included delegations from the 10 countries (mainly government and civil society representatives); 7 UN Agencies (UNDP, UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNRWA, UNFPA, USAID, WHO) and 1 NGO (FHI/IMPACT). Two Board Members of the GF as well as 2 of its Local Fund Agents (PWC and Chemonics) were also present at the meeting. The Global Fund was represented by the Chief Fund Portfolio Director, and Director for Asia, and 11 of its staff.
The main objectives of the meeting were as follows:
• Clarification of Global Fund procedures
• Discussion on implementation issues
• Exchange of country experience
• Getting inputs for the upcoming GF partnership forum
