Celestin, (age 4) and his mother were both found to have tuberculosis when they arrived at the Ekar’s Institute, a private screening and TB center run by the Sisters of Charity in Moramanga, Madagascar. A Global Fund grant is supporting their TB medication along with daily nutritional supplements, and two weeks of treatment are already making a big difference. Soon Celestin and his mother will be discharged to continue their treatment at home, where Celestin hopes to grow up to tend Zebus, a kind of cattle typical in Madagascar. The Global Fund has committed more than US$16 million to grants to fight TB throughout Madagascar.
