This child is one of 105 villagers being tested for malaria during a mass blood survey in a village in Central Kalimantan. The village is located near a gold mine, and the miners, who are more susceptible to malaria because they sleep in tents close to the jungle, risk spreading the disease to nearby communities. Global Fund-financed efforts to control malaria in this region of Indonesia include testing and treatment as well distribution of insecticide-treated nets for prevention.
