The Eleventh Board meeting of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria was held from 28 - 30 September 2005 in Geneva. This was the first Board meeting chaired by Dr Carol Jacobs, Chair of the National HIV/AIDS Commission of Barbados, since she was elected to the position of Chair of the Global Fund Board in April 2005 (read an interview with the new Chair). The Board considered the funding of proposals submitted for Round 5 and recommended by the Technical Review Panel. It approved US$382 Million Worth of New Grants (read the press release - read an explanation on the prioritization process (PDF - 298 KB) that will be used to approve additional proposals as resources become available in 2006). In addition, the Board discussed the outcome of the Fund’s first Replenishment, with a report provided by the Vice Chair of the Replenishment, Mr Sven Sandstrom. The Board also spent some time considering progress made on the development of a longer term strategy for the Fund.
