The Global Fund Internship Program is an opportunity to enable students or those who have recently graduated to expand their knowledge and practical work experience. The program allows interns to be part of an international health financing organization whose commitment is to increase capacity in the fight against three diseases: HIV / AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The program will substantially increase understanding of the issues faced by an international health financing organization and prepare interns for a career in health financing, government affairs, international aid or indeed, several commercial fields.
The Global Fund will not have a spring intake of interns in 2012. A limited number of internship positions might be opened later this year. Please check back at our website for the latest updates.
What kind of visa do I need for an internship at the Global Fund?
Prior to your arrival, unless your country is exempt from this requirement, you will need an entry visa to Switzerland. If you need to apply for an entry visa, The Global Fund will provide you with a support letter to attach to your visa application.
How can I find somewhere to live in Geneva?
Finding housing in Geneva can be difficult so you should start looking as soon as possible. There are a few options to explore:
Renting a room in a students' residence (CHF 300-800 per month): There are a number of residences or student/youth accommodation in Geneva. Many interns working for UN and other International Organizations also stay here.
Renting a room in a flat/apartment (min. CHF 500 per month): Advertisements for a room in a flat can be obtained through the university accommodation service, newspapers and expat forums.
Sub-letting a flat (min. 900 chf): As Geneva is quite a transitory place, people often go on temporary missions abroad and sublet their apartments for a short period.
You can consult our “Living and working in Geneva” page for more info.
Will this internship lead to a job at the Global Fund afterward?
Interns are not guaranteed employment after their internship. In addition, interns are not eligible to take up any form of contractual arrangement with the Global Fund as an employee or non-employee for a period of three months following the end of the internship. Any employment with the Global Fund after this period shall be subject to established recruitment and selection processes and procedures.
