Ten years ago, after her baby girl died of AIDS, Donatienne Fetia was one of the first people in the Central African Republic to go public with her HIV positive status.

As the President of the National Congress of Young HIV+ Women, she now devotes her life to supporting women aged 15 to 24, whose infection rate is five times higher than that of young men of the same age.

She is among the first group of people in her country to receive free ARV treatment through a Global Fund 2nd Round grant. Following is the story of her fateful journey.

On advances in attitudes towards AIDS...

" These medicines are responsible for helping me regain my health and go back to living a productive life, where I found another job and have been able to get involved in other projects … I do not get sick at all."

How Global Fund's Principles are translating into results...

" There is a great need in the Central African Republic. The total number of HIV positive people is 240,000, but the Global Fund grants are only enough to cover 5000 people in the next three years… You see? It's not enough. "
