During its double presidency of the European Union and the G8, the German Government emphasized public health and the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. As a result, G8 leaders committed to replenish the Global Fund through long term predictable funding, explicitly referencing the Global Fund’s increased funding need of US$ 6 to 8 billion per year by 2010 during the 2007 G8-Summit in Heiligendamm the G8 countries. To reach this financial target the German Government has invited international public and private donors to Berlin to participate in the Second Meeting of the Global Fund’s Second Voluntary Replenishment, which will take place 26-28 September 2007 . The goal of the replenishment meeting is to attract an adequate level of resources for the three-year period 2008 – 2010. In preparation of the meeting the Global Fund has been presenting its work and results to the German Public.
