Kotra Village,
50 km from Dehra Dun, UTTARANCHAL

DOTS provider: Sangita, 24 years old.
Sangita’s wish is to serve her community. She has been a DOTS provider for four months and currently has four patients on treatment. She knew about TB before her training, as she has seen a lot of publicity on TV and one of her close friends has suffered from the disease.
So far she has not had any problems. She is not frightened of getting TB and she suffers no stigma in the community – in fact she is appreciated for the work she does.
To organise her time between teaching and college, the patients come to see her early in the morning or in the evening. There has been a lot of awareness-raising in the district and people are aware of TB. She covers a population of about 800 people in her village. Her father, a retired army man, is very proud of her. Her younger sister would love to follow in her footsteps and become a DOTS provider.
