Reaching out to the most isolated communities
| TCE sets out to achieve what its name
suggests: Total Control of the Epidemic.
Financed by the Global Fund, this programme which is run by
a Danish NGO (Humana
People to People - website)
recruits groups of field officers. Each one patrols an area
of 2,000 people, who will be reached at some point during the
three year action campaign, giving friendly and informal advice
about AIDS and HIV and how to deal with the consequences. The
field officer is one of a regional team of 50 and together
they cover an entire geographic area of 100,000 people. The
TCE program was introduced in one province in northern Namibia
and was so successful it is now active in five of the Northern
provinces, reaching
a million people - that is over half the total population
and there are plans to expand to reach the entire country. |
