In Somalia, tuberculosis is considered to be a major public health problem, affecting the most productive age groups of the community. The disease is reported as the greatest barrier to stability and economic development in the country. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is supporting Somalia's fight against tuberculosis through a Round 3 grant worth almost US$ 14 million over five years. World Vision, the international faith-based organization, acts as the grant's principal recipient and has achieved remarkable results in the fight against the disease in very difficult circumstances. Faith-based organizations are involved in many other Global Fund programs spanning the globe and are a valuable partner in the organization's efforts to turn the tide against the three diseases.
