The curtain rose on Isango's La Boheme - Abanxaxhi at a Global Fund and Desmond Tutu TB Centre Special Gala Performance in Cape Town on 23 February 2012.

Hosted by Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and the Outgoing Global Fund's Executive Director, Prof. Michel Kazatchkine, the evening brought together an audience of partners and friends from across the country. In no small way the performance was dedicated to them for their work in fighting AIDS, TB and malaria with the Global Fund over the past decade.

"I truly hope that Isango’s re-imagining of Puccini’s classic will attract attention to the global threat of TB. And that its performances of La Bohème – Abanxaxhi here in South Africa and around the world will stir a debate about how we can win this fight  - even in these tough times for international development assistance.

We at the Global Fund are proud to partner with Isango in this effort. I am excited about how this wonderful group of performers will engage audiences around the world in the fight against TB and generate hope that this is an epidemic which can be beaten."
