Established as a partnership in global health, the Global Fund works closely with a wide diversity of partners –implementing governments, donors, civil society, international development organizations, the private sector and communities living with and affected by the diseases. This partnership model actively supports country-owned approaches that develop and implement effective, evidence-based programs to respond to AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

H.E. Ato Hailemariam DesalegnPrime Minister (a.i.) and Minister of Foreign AffairsMinistry of Foreign AffairsFederal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
I have learned with profound sadness of the passing of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi after a period of illness. I would like to take this opportunity to convey my most sincere sympathy and commiseration to the government and people of Ethiopia for the tragic loss of a great leader.
Prime Minister Meles Zenawi’s will always be remembered for his significant contributions to development and prosperity in Ethiopia. Under his leadership, Ethiopia embarked on a great number of energy and infrastructure projects, while the number of hospitals and schools throughout the country has surged tenfold and economic growth has been strong for the last seven years.
With the Prime Minister’s strong leadership and commitment to reducing the burden of the three diseases, HIV, TB and Malaria, Ethiopia has made great progress in stabilizing and decreasing national prevalence rates. We express immense gratitude for the late Prime Minister’s active support for the Global Fund and for the increased engagement of the government of Ethiopia with the Global Fund and with other partners on health issues generally. Having been a student of Medicine himself, the Prime Minister’s personal devotion to health issues in the country has been internationally recognized.
On behalf of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; and on my own behalf, allow me to offer our deepest sympathies and most sincere condolences for this tragic loss to Ethiopia and the family of the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
Gabriel Jaramillo, General Manager of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
