    Where does the health systems strengthening dollar go?

    While 66 out of the 140 countries with rounds-based grants made successful proposals for health systems strengthening, almost half (48 percent) of that funding is concentrated in just five countries with Nigeria topping the list.

    What does the health systems strengthening dollar pay for?  

    With a focus on sustainability, the largest commitments are for human resources together with training, followed by infrastructure and equipment (as shown in the figure below). Addressing bottlenecks in the health system associated with lack of capacity, whether in terms of infrastructure or human resources is expected to improve outcomes in the fight against the three diseases.
