In January 2008, Chevron Corporation became the first Global Fund Corporate Champion, making a commitment of US$ 30 million to the Global Fund at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Chevron's support is being directed to specific grants in six Global Fund recipient countries in Africa and Asia.
Chevron has developed partnerships with Global Fund Principal Recipients in Angola, Nigeria, South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines focused on capacity development initiatives, joint advocacy and communications campaigns and other local initiatives. In addition, Chevron encourages staff members in these countries to share their skills with the local programs to assist them in improving grant reach and performance.
In October 2010, Chevron announced that it will commit an additional US$ 25 million to the Global Fund, raising its 6-year investment in the organization to US$ 55 million. This is now the largest contribution from a single corporation to the organization.
HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria are critical health issues in many of the countries where Chevron operates. Helping to eradicate these diseases is one of the clearest examples of how long-term business interests and a commitment to corporate responsibility are intrinsically linked. We are extremely pleased to work with Chevron because of the company's commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria on a global level.”Michel Kazatchkine, Executive Director of the Global Fund
The Global Fund Corporate Champions Program is an integrated platform for companies to make a significant financial commitment to the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. These companies recognize that investing through the Global Fund's performance-based grant-making model is an efficient and impactful way to sustain healthy communities around the globe.
