"Gift from Africa" is a joint initiative of the Global Fund and Friends of the Global Fund Africa. The campaign invites private sector leaders from the continent to come together on the global stage and invest in the fight against the three diseases in Africa. The brochure outlines the campaign, and the global platform it provides for Africa-based philanthropic contributions to the Global Fund.
The campaign was announced at the Global Fund MDG Summit event in September 2010, with initial pledges of US$ 3 million from the following contributors:
Access Bank Nigeria
Anglo American South Africa
Cirrus Oil, Ghana
MTN Group
Old Mutual, South Africa
The United Against Malaria Campaign (Nando's, MTN and Standard Bank)
“If we are in the same boat, then a hole at one end of the boat puts all of us at risk.” Kofi A. Annan United Nations Secretary-General (1997-2006)
“The Gift from Africa campaign affords us the opportunity to provide responsible leadership to African companies, and demonstrate to the world that Africans are prepared to share the responsibility for solving Africa’s challenges.” Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede Group Managing Director, Access Bank and Chairman of Friends of the Global Fund Africa
