I am Yalemnur Nuruhsien and I am a clinical nurse. Now, I have been trained as a Health Extension Worker for two months.

It is important to tell patients to sleep under a bed net. That way we can prevent malaria. Bed nets are used especially for the low land areas and the villages. In the city, you are more talking about the drainage of the sewer system and the stagnant waters and when they become sick for healthy treatment.

It is better to talk with them because if there is a malarial case, it may be an epidemic case for that area, if you do not treat it properly. So it is better to take care and to tell about malaria care.

First, if I suspect malaria, I will make a Paracheck. We are trained about Paracheck. If there is a positive result I will treat him. We have a medication Coartem with us. If we do not have, for instance, we will send him to the health center, and I will tell him how to prevent malaria. If there is stagnant water, to drain it. If there are mosquitoes, to eradicate them. I will tell them.
