Mecanismo de reposición voluntaria
Roma, Italia – 20-21 junio 2005
Durante este evento, celebrado por el Gobierno de Italia, los donantes del Fondo Mundial se reunieron para tratar las necesidades de financiación para 2006 y 2007 así como el déficit de recursos previsto para 2005. Esta reunión también ofreció a los donantes un foro de seguimiento para intercambiar puntos de vista sobre las operaciones y la eficacia del Fondo, después de la primera reunión de reposición celebrada en marzo en Estocolmo.
El Fondo Mundial recibe la ayuda de contribuciones voluntarias de gobiernos, fundaciones privadas, corporaciones y particulares. Hasta la fecha, más de 45 países así como otros donantes han comprometido 6.100 millones de USD para apoyar los programas del Fondo Mundial en todo el mundo hasta 2008. Sin embargo, el sistema actual de contribuciones ad hoc dificulta planificar el trabajo del Fondo y dar apoyo sostenido y predecible a los 127 países que actualmente reciben subvenciones. En su sexta reunión de octubre de 2003, la Junta directiva del Fondo Mundial acordó establecer un modelo de financiación basado en la reposición periódica en lugar del sistema actual.
El proceso de reposición es presidido por el Secretario general de la ONU, Kofi Annan, con Sven Sandström como Vicepresidente. El Gobierno de Reino Unido celebrará una tercera reunión sobre Reposición en Londres, los días 5-7 de septiembre de 2005.
