Photo of the Week: Eliminating Breeding Grounds

02 April 2012

Scouts from Bhutanese town of Gelephu visit neighboring villages to help the local community with malaria prevention measures. One important activity is eliminating places where mosquitoes lay their eggs such as rain water collection barrels.

Malaria is a major public health concern in Bhutan, affecting more than 70 percent of the country’s population. The goal of the Global Fund-program implemented by the “Gross National Happiness Commission” is to help reduce malaria-related sickness and death in the country by 2013.
