Remembering Michael Elliott

16 July 2016

The Global Fund honors the memory of Michael Elliott, who was President and Chief Executive Officer of the ONE campaign for five years, and who died on the evening of 14 July 2016. Michael’s passion, commitment, humanity and unforgettable sense of humor characterized his work in the cause of improving human life, and he was a beloved colleague and friend of many.

During Michael’s time at ONE, from 2011 to 2016, he greatly expanded the footprint of the organization, as its membership rose from 2 million to more than 7 million worldwide. Before joining ONE, he had a distinguished career in the media, first as Political Editor and Washington Bureau Chief of The Economist, where he was the founding author of both the “Bagehot” and “Lexington” columns. He later served as editor of both TIME International and Newsweek International, and wrote television documentaries and four books, including “The Day Before Yesterday,” an acclaimed history of the post-1945 United States.

Michael’s zest for life, his generosity, courage, his love of family and friends, will forever endear his memory to those who were lucky enough to know him. We honor his contributions, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Emma, and daughters Roxana and Gina.
