Over the last few years, Kyrgyzstan has made significant progress in providing a better legal framework for TB services, improved TB diagnosis and treatment, and reduced TB incidence and mortality rates. Drug resistance is a major challenge, however, and Kyrgyzstan is one of the 30 high MDR-TB burden countries in the world.
The HIV epidemic is concentrated among key populations, mostly people who inject drugs, sex workers and men who have sex with men. The current Global Fund grant to the country seeks to reduce the TB burden in Kyrgyzstan by ensuring that all people have access to timely and quality diagnosis and treatment. It also targets key populations with HIV prevention activities and allows people living with HIV to receive better care and support.
