Paraguay is a country of vast natural resources with a small and open economy. Challenges remain as the country faces high levels of poverty and inequality. TB is endemic, mainly in areas of high population density, and vulnerable populations such as the indigenous people and prisoners. AIDS is also considered to be an endemic disease, which affects vulnerable populations such as sex workers, men who have sex with men and young women and men. Malaria is on the path to elimination. The health system, which is in full reform, requires strengthening. Global Fund financing goes toward scaling-up the national response to TB and HIV through greater diagnosis and coverage, community support and prevention awareness, and training of health care professionals. The Global Fund / John Rae
