Engaging the private sector to fight TB

India has the highest TB burden in the world with an estimated 2.7 million cases in 2018, and 440,000 deaths - over 1,200 deaths every day. TB often afflicts people in their prime working years, and the private sector has a crucial role to play in eradicating TB from its workplaces and supply chains.
With strategic support from the Global Fund, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – India’s foremost trade association with 9,100 members and an indirect membership of over 300,000 enterprises – launched the “Drive for a TB-Free Workplace” campaign in September 2020.
Developed in conjunction with the Indian Ministry of Health & Family Welfare’s Central TB Division, this initiative seeks to drive engagement of the Indian private sector on TB by raising awareness, encouraging the adoption of TB workplace policies (including prevention, screening and treatment referral services) and promoting the allocation of corporate CSR funds to fight TB. The Global Fund and the CII are working closely on initiative rollout, starting with CEO Roundtable events across India to drive corporate engagement at the highest level.
