In sub-Saharan Africa, girls aged 14-24 are being infected with HIV at an alarming rate, and are at much higher risk of HIV than boys their age. South Africa is a stark example of this disparity. In 2015 alone, 100,000 girls aged 15-24 were infected with HIV, compared with 42,000 boys.
