Global Fund Commends Denmark’s Pledge to the Eighth Replenishment

10 October 2025

GENEVA – The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund), commends Denmark’s DKK 375 million pledge, which underscores its long-standing commitment to global health at a critical time of escalating health challenges and widening inequalities.

“At a time when the world faces converging health threats, sustained investment in the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria is not just lifesaving - it’s foundational to building resilient, equitable health systems,” said Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund. “We are deeply grateful for Denmark’s commitment and example.”

“Denmark is among the first countries to announce our planned contribution to the Global Fund’s Eighth Replenishment, maintaining a strong and sustained investment because investing in health means saving lives,” said Minister for Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen. “Denmark stands with the countries and communities most in need of support in the vital fight against AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria – diseases that still claim far too many lives.”

Denmark: A Steadfast Partner in the Fight Against Epidemics

Denmark’s renewed support for the Global Fund reflects its role as a steadfast partner in the fight against HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. It also underscores its dedication to global health equity and aligns with its new development cooperation strategy, A Changing World – Partnerships in Development, launched in June 2025. The strategy emphasizes inclusive partnerships and resilient health systems.

As holder of the EU Council Presidency in the second half of 2025, Denmark continues to lead by example - upholding its commitment to allocate 0.7% of GNI to development assistance, a benchmark that enables sustained, predictable support to partners like the Global Fund.

With support from Denmark and other partners, the Global Fund partnership has saved 70 million lives and reduced the combined death rate from AIDS, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria by 63% over the last two decades.

With this contribution, Denmark joins Australia, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland and Spain – as well as several private sector partners – who have made early pledges to the Global Fund’s Eighth Replenishment. As the fourth EU Member State to step forward, Denmark’s pledge reinforces a growing wave of European solidarity and global determination to save lives and defeat the world’s deadliest infectious diseases.

The Global Fund’s Eighth Replenishment campaign was launched in February 2025 under the leadership of co-hosts the Republic of South Africa and the United Kingdom

Early pledges are critical to building confidence and encouraging other donors to step forward. They help catalyze additional commitments and ensure the Global Fund can plan effectively to deliver maximum impact.

With a successful Replenishment, the Global Fund partnership could help save up to 23 million lives between 2027 and 2029, and reduce the mortality rate from AIDS, TB and malaria by 64% by 2029, compared to 2023 levels, while strengthening health and community systems to fight new outbreaks and accelerate pathways to self-reliance.
