Global Fund Launches Process to Select New Board Chair and Vice-Chair

12 December 2025

GENEVA – The Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund) has formally launched the process to select its next Chair and Vice-Chair for a 3-year term from 2026-2029. The role of Chair is currently held by Lady Roslyn Morauta, and the role of Vice-Chair by Adv. Bience Gawanas.

The Board Chair and Vice-Chair serve as key ambassadors and advocates for the Global Fund’s work and lead the Board, which determines the Global Fund’s strategy and policies.

This transition comes at a pivotal moment for global health and development. Challenging global trends – rising pressures on official development assistance (ODA), shifting geopolitical priorities and tighter fiscal space in many Global Fund donors and implementing countries – are reshaping the environment in which health programs operate.

The Global Fund partnership works to sustain progress and accelerate the impact of its investments as it shifts into this new era – one defined by transformation, innovation, shared responsibility and the pathway to self-reliance.

Under the Board’s guidance and oversight, the Global Fund partnership will work smarter – leveraging cutting-edge tools, strengthening efficiencies and simplifying processes – while supporting governments, communities and partners to build a global health ecosystem that is more collaborative and coherent, and more responsive to the country priorities of to advance the fight against AIDS, TB and malaria, strengthen health systems and build a healthier, safer, more equitable world.

The next Board Chair and Vice-Chair will be leaders of international stature, with demonstrated records of achievement that equip them to guide strategic deliberations and represent the partnership to external stakeholders. Together, they will bring:

  • Extensive experience working within multistakeholder governance bodies and engaging with high-level officials.
  • Strong understanding of the global health architecture and the Global Fund’s governance processes.
  • Leadership expertise derived from diverse sectors and contexts.

The Global Fund Board includes 20 voting members, with donor and implementer constituencies represented equally. Voting members also include representatives from non-governmental organizations, the private sector, private foundations and communities affected by HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. The Board has eight non-voting members, comprising the Chair and Vice-Chair as well as representatives from key partner organizations, and the Additional Public Donors constituency.

The Global Fund has engaged Russell Reynolds Associates to support the search and selection process.
