Daniel Petrescu Appointed as Head of Audit

The Global Fund has appointed Daniel Petrescu as Head of Audit for the Office of the Inspector General. Mr Petrescu will be responsible for ensuring a focus on the key risks facing the Global Fund, and for helping the organization achieve greater impact in the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

“Daniel is a world-class auditor, passionate about both the Global Fund’s mission and audit’s role in leading and driving positive change” said Tracy Staines, Inspector General. “He has consistently demonstrated strong leadership and technical skills, and is ideally placed to take the OIG Audit function to the next stage in its evolution”.

Originally from Romania, Mr Petrescu joined the Global Fund in 2014, serving as an Audit Manager and later Advisory Manager before being promoted to Interim Head of Audit in August 2020. He has managed some of the OIG’s most strategic reviews and has been instrumental in the development of the Office’s advisory capabilities.

He spent 12 years in the private sector before joining the Fund, starting his career with Raiffeisen Bank and then spent seven years with Société Générale Romania as Internal Audit Director and Chief Audit Executive. He is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA), holds CIA and CFSA certifications and an EMBA.
