Every country’s COVID-19 response is underpinned by resilient and sustainable systems for health
COVID-19 has seriously impacted systems for health, overwhelming health facilities, exposing weaknesses in supply chains, and putting health workers and community health workers on the front lines in danger. Without strong systems for health, critical health tools like tests, treatments, and vaccines cannot be deployed, and health workers and community health workers cannot safely care for their patients and communities.
The Global Fund has been investing in resilient and sustainable systems for health for the last two decades in the fight against HIV, TB and malaria, supporting countries to strengthen laboratory systems, train the health workforce, improve procurement and supply chains, strengthen data systems, invest in community responses and systems, and promote more integrated service delivery. These same systems for health now underpin the COVID-19 response.
As a co-convener of the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator’s (ACT-Accelerator) Health Systems Connector, the Global Fund is supporting countries to protect health workers and community health workers on the front lines with personal protective equipment (PPE) like masks and gloves, and to strengthen supply chains to ensure that lifesaving COVID-19 tools can be delivered to everyone in need. By investing in systems for health, the Global Fund is protecting progress against HIV, TB, and malaria, responding to COVID-19, and preparing for future pandemics.
