DAKAR, Senegal – Ecobank Group and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria are launching today a new phase in an ongoing partnership that strengthens the financial management capabilities of organizations implementing Global Fund grants in Africa. Senegal will become the latest country to join the partnership, which already includes Nigeria and South Sudan.
The agencies involved in the program in Senegal will include Le Conseil National de Lutte contre le Sida (CNLS), Le Programme National de Lutte contre la Tuberculose (PNT), Le Programme National de Lutte contre le Paludisme (PNLP), and La Direction Générale de la Santé (DGS).
With support from the Accounting for International Development (AfID) in the United Kingdom, the program will strengthen financial management capacities within the finance departments of the four agencies through technical training delivered by Ecobank Senegal and through the placement of AfID volunteer accountants within the respective departments. It aims to improve financial management of public resources, financial reporting in compliance with Global Fund requirements and the understanding and application of accounting and internal control procedures.
The Ecobank and Global Fund partnership to strengthen the financial management capabilities of grant recipients began in 2013 and will continue for three-five years.
