Global Fund Appoints Fady Zeidan as General Counsel

GENEVA – Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, announced today that Fady Zeidan will be the new General Counsel for the Global Fund.

Zeidan is a highly experienced legal professional with a more than 30-year track record in international finance and development. Most recently, Zeidan served as Deputy General Counsel of the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group. At IFC, he led a large team of lawyers that spanned Washington D.C., Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America to support IFC’s rapidly expanding investment and advisory operations. He previously worked at the International Monetary Fund and was also in private practice in Beirut, Paris and New York.

“Fady is a highly accomplished lawyer, who has a demonstrated ability to handle a wide range of complex legal matters in a sensible, pragmatic and principled way,” said Sands. “I am very pleased that he will provide first class legal guidance for the work of the Global Fund.”

At IFC, Zeidan led corporate initiatives to develop innovative approaches and to mobilize private and public resources to increase IFC’s impact in its client countries. Most recently, Zeidan was a core member of the team that secured significant capital increases for IFC, positioning it for substantial growth and impact in strategic areas such as heath, infrastructure and climate finance.

Zeidan, a Lebanese national, has a Master of Laws degree at Harvard Law School, a law degree at the Université Saint Joseph in Lebanon, and a degree in business law from Université de Droit, d'Économie et des Sciences Sociales in Paris II, France.

He will join the Global Fund in December 2018.
