India Makes Strong Commitment to Global Fund

28 November 2022

New Delhi / Geneva - The Government of India has announced an increased commitment of US$25 million to the Global Fund for the next three years, highlighting India’s leadership in global efforts to end AIDS, TB and malaria and to build stronger health systems.

The pledge is part of the record-breaking US$15.7 billion raised by the Global Fund for its Seventh Replenishment Conference for the next three-year cycle of grants. The Global Fund’s Board Meeting on 15-17 November 2022 approved the total funding available for the 2023-2025 grant allocation period.

India has long been a strategic partner of the Global Fund, both as a grant implementer and as a donor. India has the world’s largest TB epidemic and set the ambitious goal of ending TB by 2025, five years ahead of the targets set in the Sustainable Development Goals.

Global health is high on India’s international cooperation agenda. The country has a particular interest in fighting infectious diseases; it seeks to contribute to ending TB globally and eliminating malaria in South Asia. The country also has an interest in neglected tropical diseases. India plays a leading role on global health issues in the G20.

A key contribution of India is also making available quality and affordable health products – including generic pharmaceuticals, mosquito nets and diagnostic tests – for programs around the world.
