GENEVA -- To expand transparency of its investments and programs, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund) is launching a new design and expansion of its Data Explorer platform. With the upgrades, the platform will contain additional financial information on Global Fund investments and will be more intuitive to navigate. The update, launched today, gives additional clarity on how much funding the Global Fund is disbursing, where it is being invested and how effectively it is utilized.
“For us, transparency is more than just good practice, it is one of our founding principles,” said Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund. “Our donors, partners and the communities we serve put their trust in us. In return, it is our job to give them the tools they need to hold us accountable so everyone can confirm for themselves that investing in the Global Fund brings the best value.”
The Data Explorer visualizes where Global Fund investments come from, where they are and what they achieve by providing pledge and contribution data, grant financial data, and results data at global, regional and country levels.
“With this new information, stakeholders will have real-time visibility into our financial performance,” said Adda Faye, Chief Financial Officer of the Global Fund. “Previously, this level of granularity was not publicly available. Now it has been released at the disease-intervention level so key stakeholders of the Global Fund partnership can leverage the financial insights to dynamically maximize the impact of our investments.”
Also, today, Publish What You Fund's 2024 Aid Transparency Index – currently the only independent measure on aid transparency – released their latest rankings for leading development organizations. The Global Fund ranked at the top of the “Good” category.
“We are very pleased to have increased more than 10 points this year in the Aid Transparency Index since the last review in 2022,” said Francoise Vanni, Director of External Relations and Communications at the Global Fund. “This reflects our commitment to improve transparency and recognizes our efforts to make more of our information accessible and user-friendly.”
Since the last index, the Global Fund has focused on putting in place mechanisms that make detailed documents and data about the performance of its investments easier to find and navigate. The Global Fund looks forward to the next Aid Transparency Index when the upgraded Data Explorer and the addition of new financial data will be included in the performance review.
