GENEVA - The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has confirmed that it will contribute US$8 million to the Global Fund’s Seventh Replenishment, which covers the 2024-2026 grant cycle. KFAED’s Acting Director General Waleed Sh. Al-Bahar and Global Fund Executive Director Peter Sands signed a multiyear contribution agreement this week.
Kuwait was the first Middle Eastern country to join the Global Fund partnership in 2003. Its steadfast support over the past two decades has been instrumental in helping the Global Fund partnership save more than 65 million lives, cut the combined death rate from HIV, tuberculosis and malaria by more than 61%, and support more than 100 countries in strengthening their healthcare systems. With this latest agreement, Kuwait’s cumulative support of the Global Fund will reach US$26 million.
In welcoming the contribution, Sands said, “At the Global Fund, we are proud of our partnership with Kuwait and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. Kuwait has long been a pioneer with regards to international development, including in global health, and I greatly appreciate Kuwait’s continued commitment to our mission of eliminating the three diseases and building a healthier and more equitable world for all.”
