The Global Fund continues to work closely with our technical partners, especially the Stop TB Partnership's Global Drug Facility and our procurement service agents, as the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic evolves.
The newly formed Global Fund Youth Council brings the unique reality of adolescents and young people, in all their diversity, to the attention of the Executive Director of the Global Fund. Announced at the November 2019 Global Fund Board meeting, the Youth Council will provide insight into the needs and challenges youth face in relation to HIV, tuberculosis and malaria and, more broadly, to other aspects of their health and well-being.
On 9 April the Global Fund Board approved a new response mechanism to support countries to respond to COVID-19 and mitigate the impact on programs to fight HIV, TB, malaria and systems for health. The COVID-19 Response Mechanism authorizes funding of US$500 million and comes in addition to up to US$500 million in grant flexibilities previously announced by the Global Fund.
